JEE Main Session 1 2026 – Overview National Testing Agency (NTA) has released the official notification for Joint Entrance Examination (Main) – JEE Main 2026 Session 1.
This is the first attempt for admission to B.E./B.Tech, B.Arch, and B.Planning courses in NITs, IIITs, GFTIs, and other top engineering colleges. JEE Main 2026 is also the eligibility test for JEE Advanced 2026. Applications are open now – a golden opportunity for 12th appearing/passed students!

Vacancy / Seats (Overview) JEE Main does not have fixed vacancies. Qualifying candidates get ranks for admission to:
- NITs – ~24,000 seats
- IIITs – ~7,000 seats
- GFTIs – ~6,000 seats
- Many private/state colleges accept JEE Main scores Total seats under JoSAA counselling: Approximately 50,000+ (exact numbers released during counselling).
Eligibility Criteria (Simple Explanation)
- Class 12th / Equivalent: Passed or appearing in 2025 or 2026 (from recognized board).
- Subjects for B.E./B.Tech: Physics, Mathematics + one of Chemistry/Biology/Biotechnology/Technical Vocational subject.
- Age Limit: No upper age limit.
- Attempts Allowed: 3 consecutive years (6 attempts – 2 sessions per year).
- Year of Passing: 2024, 2025, or 2026 (for 2026 exam).
- Minimum Marks: 75% in 12th for NITs/IIITs/GFTIs (65% for SC/ST) – only for admission, not for appearing in exam.

- Each subject: 25 questions (20 MCQ + 5 Numerical)
- Marking: +4 for correct, -1 for wrong (MCQ only), no negative for numerical.
How to Apply (Reference – Process Closed for Session 1) Applications are closed for Session 1. For reference (and Session 2):
- Go to official NTA JEE Main portal.
- Register using name, mobile, email, Aadhaar (if available).
- Fill personal, academic, exam centre details.
- Upload scanned photo, signature, 12th marksheet (if passed).
- Pay fee online.
- Submit form and download confirmation page.
Latest Updates (February 2026)
- Session 1 exam is over (January–February 2026).
- Answer Key released shortly after exam (check official site).
- Result expected around 12 February 2026.
- Session 2 Registration will start soon (usually March 2026).
- Candidates who appeared in Session 1 can improve score in Session 2 (better of two attempts considered).
